SESAP 14 involves 655 multiple-choice questions in 15 different content categories. SESAP 15 debuts at Clinical Congress in Washington, DC, in October of this year (2013). It is a completely new product with all new questions. A new edition of SESAP is released every three years. SESAP 14 launched in October 2010. The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Education presents the 14th edition of the Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®). For 39 years, SESAP has been a premier educational resource for practicing surgeons who want to assess and maintain their clinical knowledge. SESAP 14 consists of 655 newly constructed, problem-based multiple choice questions. Robust critiques provide evidence-based explanations regarding the best answers, as well as supporting references from the current literature. The questions cover all of the 15 major content areas of general surgery, consistent with the American Board of Surgery (ABS) outline for topics addressed in ABS examinations. Many surgeons use SESAP to prepare for high stakes examinations. In addition, SESAP is a valuable self-assessment tool and is recognized by the ABS as a resource that can be used to help fulfill Maintenance of Certification (MOC), Part 2 requirements. SESAP 14 includes a totally redesigned self-assessment and learning model for continuing medical education (CME) credit that will help ensure mastery of critical content. Participants enrolled for CME credit will complete a process of self-assessment and review, followed by a CME test to show mastery of the content. In order to obtain CME credits, 80% of the questions must be answered correctly. Additional review is offered until a score of 80% is achieved. After all categories are completed successfully, the results are submitted using the Internet to the ACS. A total of 70 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ can be earned by completing all the categories, more than with past SESAP editions. | ![]() |
