2013
Was a pretty good year for me.
My business continues to pick up momentum and everything seems to be heading in the right direction. I recently made the switch from freelance copywriter to running a CRO business (same work, different positioning) and that looks like it's going to be a very profitable decision. I've already been hired by a couple of firms that I don't believe would've touched a direct-response copywriter.
What worked
Dan Sullivan - His works made a massive difference to my work.
Video Yeah, Im a year or two behind the times but better late than never. Every page I added video to has seen almost every meaningful metric boosted.
If youre not already doing video, get something like Camtasia and start. Its not as hard as you think.
List building I finally took my own advice and made a more serious effort to build my list. Without really trying, just making the occasional offer, Ive made a decent five-figure sum from it.
What didnt
Hiring an employee - I wasnt ready for it. But it has given me a better idea of when I will be ready. Every cloud and all that.
I think that was all unless my other disasters were so terrible Ive erased them from my mind (not outside the realms of possibility).
The future
My plans are to focus on content marketing, Facebook PPC, and to stop relying on referrals for most of my work.
A gentleman did offer to get me some speaking gigs last year but it never panned out, so thats also something I want to look into.
And I was intending to offer coaching last year but it also never happened as I was too busy with client work. Thats definitely on the cards, either as an MMG or through my own site.
Other than that, Im really just going to see how my transition to a business from a freelancer goes before I make any more plan.
Thanks
A massive thanks to the entire FUB and GI teams (including, of course, the oft-forgotten buyers). Im not going to name you all individually as Ill end up leaving someone out.
And thank you to the members, whether youve supported the forums through buying an iSaveLink account, taking part in a GB, or answering questions and sharing your wisdom. It all helps make our little community what it is.
Wherever you are in the world and whatever your plans are - good luck for 2014.
